Holiday break is the perfect time to indulge in a good lineup of movies. Personally, I am a huge rom-com fan, but any movie that leaves me feeling just a little different is a good movie to me. So, here are my recommendations of movies to add to your list.
Two of my favorite feel-good movies are what I like to call semi-rom-coms. I never hear people talk about the movie Crossroads, but it is so lovely. The plot is nothing crazy, but it just has such early 2000s vibes. I am also a huge Britney Spears fan, and she is one of the leads, making it just a little more loveable. Another semi-rom-com that I love is The Sweetest Thing. It has a similar concept as Crossroads, girls on a road trip, but is also completely different at the same time. Not to mention how amusing Cameron Diaz is.
You have probably heard of 10 Things I Hate About You about a million times, but I’m so serious, you have to watch it. The sound track of this movie is impeccable, the story line is perfect, the cast is amazing, and the feeling this movie brings is unmatched. Honestly, it’s hard to put into words, so just go watch it! Similarly, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days deserves the attention it gets. Something about the unexpected love is just so joyous. Even if you aren’t a rom-com fan, watch it for Kate Hudson’s outfits. It would be a dream come true to wear that gorgeous yellow floor length dress.
Something about a rom-com set in a city makes it that much better. How Do You Know is not talked about enough. It reminds me of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days in the sense that it gives off the same city vibe and has the ending you are rooting for. I mean, who wouldn’t love a movie with Reese Witherspoon and Paul Rudd? If you are looking for a little more humor, Friends With Benefits is the movie for you. It is comical while also being wholesome in the end. Set It Up is similar with humor, but a completely different story, both are very modern rom-coms.
While I do love the feeling rom-coms leave me with, sometimes you need to watch an emotionally deep movie. La La Land made me sob, but I wish I could rewatch that movie for the first time. It really made me realize the harsh reality that there are so many different paths that you can take in your life, but either way you have to give something up. Seriously, life changing. Similarly, Call Me by Your Name was gut wrenching, but is a must watch. The Italian summer mood is so perfect. The movie also has the right amount of silence that makes you think. Some people say the book is better since it gives more internal thoughts of the characters, but it’s up to you to choose which version is your favorite. Lastly, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. This movie has such deep themes in it that really resonate with being a teenager. There are moments throughout that make you relate to the characters and their feelings of freedom and joy, but there are also significant moments of teenage struggle.
Hopefully you are able to find a new movie to watch out of this list!
Till next Sunday,
Daisy
