Putting healthy ingredients into your smoothie can be one of the easiest ways to get nutrition. If you want a few tips on what to add to your smoothie to make it extra nutritious, here are my favs!
- Flax Seeds
Flax seeds are great for your digestive health due to the amount of fiber in them. They are also high in omega-3 fatty acids which means they will help your skin and help with your heart health. They are often sold ground up making it very easy to add into a smoothie. My favorite from the brand Sanar; they are cheap and sold on Amazon!
- Chia Seeds
Similarly to flax seeds, chia seeds are high in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. Chia seeds are also helpful for your metabolism. You can either put them in your smoothie, or add them as a topping to a smoothie bowl. You can’t go wrong with what brand you choose, but I recommend the ones from Sanar, again because they are so cheap. Carrington also sells a ground up mix of chia seeds and flax seeds which is amazing!
- Protein Powder
The easiest way to make a smoothie filling is by adding protein powder. Protein is so important for your body, especially your muscles. There are so many different options, but I recommend going for whey or plant based protein. My two favorites are the vanilla flavor from Orgain and the “Double Rich Chocolate” whey protein powder from Optimum Nutrition.
- Collagen Peptides
Collagen peptides are fantastic for your skin! They help rejuvenate your skin, hydrate it, and improve its elasticity. It can also help relieve joint pain and improve the health of your nails. I love the collagen peptides from Vital Proteins, it literally tastes like nothing.
- Greens
I’m sure you have heard 101 things about green powder, but personally I don’t enjoy just drinking greens alone, instead, I like to add the powder to my smoothies. Greens are full of digestive fibers, vitamins, and minerals. I recommend the greens from either Amazing Grass or Live Conscious
- Ginger
Ginger is so insanely good for you. It has anti-inflammatory properties due to the gingerols, and it helps with digestion. The one problem is that it has such a strong taste. Whenever I put it in my smoothies, I just cut a little piece of raw ginger and throw it in. If you try this out and hate it, I recommend trying juice shots. I like the ginger shots from Suja and Sol-ti.
Hopefully you will consider trying out at least one of these ingredients in your next smoothie!
Till next Sunday,
Daisy
