It feels like it takes an eternity for my favorite season to come around, yet it always slips away in the blink of an eye. I love summer. The season fills my body with joy and I seriously can’t get enough. However, I always have a pang of regret when the season ends; I feel like I never savor it enough. Not this summer though. This summer I want to focus on living it to the fullest. So, here are a few things I will be thinking/doing about this summer to feel that I lived each of the blissful moments to their fullest.
- Do it afraid
Maybe you have heard this before, maybe you haven’t. I’m serious, do it afraid. Whether you are afraid because you have to do it alone or because it is simply out of your comfort zone, let yourself step out. It is impossible to grow when you stay in a refined box. I like to focus on this a lot in the summer because I find it is the time I am presented with the most opportunity to branch out of my usual routine.
- Money Comes Back
Experiences are worth the money. When I say this I don’t mean go on a big shopping spree everyday, I mean spend your money on the things that bring you joy. Yes, the plane ticket may be expensive, but the memories are worth it. It’s ok to spoil yourself, even if it’s a fun latte, just do it!
- Document
If you have read any of my prior posts, I am sure you know by now that I put a lot of time into journaling and scrapbooking. I really cherish documenting each moment and if you haven’t started already, summer is the perfect time to do so. You don’t have to write pages each day or spend tons of money printing up fancy high quality photos, just spend a little time reflecting on your most recent moments and document them. I find this helpful in pulling me away from getting too sucked into social media.
- “Become the person you wish to attract”
This isn’t necessarily a summer specific thing, but in my head it really does pertain to summer. During this season, I find myself in a different environment than I am in during the school year. Whether you are in the same boat, or not, use the season to improve. As the quote says, “Become the person you wish to attract.” Spend time working on yourself and learning what you value most. It can actually help you stay more present and pay attention to the small details of each moment.
- DO Your Bucket Lists
We all write down or think of a bucket list of things we want to do each summer, but, personally, I always fall short of actually accomplishing my long list. This summer, that is going to change. Write down the list and DO IT. This summer is the summer of action.
- Breathe More
This may sound silly, but I don’t actually mean to breathe more. I mean, spend a little extra time each day to take a deep breath and take in your surroundings. Realize how lucky you are to be in that moment. It really can go a long way in savoring the art of each moment and enjoying every last second possible.
- Plan a Solo Date
We all can get really obsessed with constantly hanging out with friends during the summer, but seriously, spend some time on yourself. Like I said before, summer is the perfect time to improve, but if you are constantly surrounded by the noise and thoughts of others, it can be really hard to reflect on yourself. The biggest misconception with alone time is that it has to be boring or quiet. It does not have to be AT ALL. Go out for a little lunch or go to a park and read, just do something alone so that you can think a little and recharge. Trust me, I’m such an extroverted person, so I understand this can be difficult, but it really does change you for the better.
- Move Your Body
This is not me telling you to work out, this is me saying MOVE. It makes you feel better. Spend the summer finding good songs to dance to or songs that make running fun. It does not have to be a full hour workout, but just move a little. Dancing, walking, biking, yoga, it all counts.
- Get Outside
Last, but 10000% not least, go outside. It does not matter where you live, just find a way to get outside. Putting your feet on the grass, breathing in fresh air, and letting the sun hit your face heals you in a way that nothing else can. Especially if you live somewhere where it gets super cold in the winter, really think about how lucky you are to get time outside.
I hope this helps you enjoy your summer to its fullest.
Till next Sunday,
Daisy
