While having unique clothing items is important, crafting the perfect line up of basics can actually help you create a diversity of outfits. For this week’s post, I thought I would provide some assistance for building your basics.

  1. Black Tank Top

Seriously, how can you survive without a black tank? Having a range of colors is helpful, but I find myself reaching for my black tank the most. You can wear it on its own, under a sweater,  with a pair of jeans, with a cute patterned skirt, dressed up, or casually. My recommendations are Zara’s Polyamide Blend Top or Garage’s Sleek Scoop Cami Top.

  1. Staple Jeans

I may have too many pairs of jeans for my own good, but I do consistently reach for the same pair. For me, the ideal pair is rid-rise and slightly baggy. When I buy jeans, I typically buy pairs that are labeled as low-rise, as they do end up being mid-rise on me. If that is the case with you I recommend Zara’s Low-Rise Wide Leg Jeans, Edikted’s Low-Rise Wide Leg Jeans, or Aritzia’s Denim Forum Super Lo-Rise Wide Jeans.

  1. Casual Sneakers

Everyone has different style choices, especially about shoes. I love a good pair of cream sneakers for everyday wear. I find that I can dress them up, or wear them casually on a Sunday coffee run. Changing up shoes can spice things up, but having a go-to basic is just as important. DSW has a good pair and so does Adidas.

  1. Black Ballet Flats

While basic sneakers are versatile, sometimes you just need something a little fancier. You don’t want heels or flashy shoes, just something simple. You need black ballet flats! Once you buy a pair, you will find you wear them all the time. They truly do go with anything, including cute socks in the winter. For a super cheap, simple pair, I recommend Target’s option. For a higher-end choice, look at Madewell’s cute pair.

  1. Black Skirt

There are just some tops that don’t look good with jeans, but need a simple bottom to pair with it. So, that is where a black skirt comes in handy. Personally, I like tight black skirts rather than something flowy; I find I wear them more. Take a look at Motel Rocks or Urban Outfitters to find a good skirt!

  1. Jean Skirt

During the summer, a jean skirt is an essential for me. I am constantly wearing a jean skirt to the beach with my bikini, to work, to go into town, to lunch with friends, or to go out at night. You seriously cannot go wrong with a trusty jean skirt. Recently, I have definitely found myself reaching for my jean skirt during the fall to pair it with a sweater, or during the spring to complete an outfit for class. I love Levi’s Superlow Denim Mini Skirt as well as Hollister’s Dark Wash Mini Skirt.

  1. Simple Cardigan

Having a cardigan to throw off a dress or a shirt can make all the difference. During the transitional fashion time of the changing season, trying to balance an outfit to match the weather can be difficult, but having a good basic cardigan can make all the difference. If you want a simple white option, I recommend Urban Outfitter’s Rachel Cardigan. If you prefer a black cardigan, look at Beverly and Beck’s Marley Cardigan.

Good luck basic building!

Till next Sunday,

Daisy
