If you have been on social media this past year, you most definitely have seen Italian charm bracelets. However, the history of them has not been showcased throughout this trend. If you are interested in learning history, you have come to the right place!
Italian charm bracelets began with the Italian company Nomination. In 1987, Nomination was gaining attention in the United States and used their momentum to design the iconic italian charm bracelet. These bracelets are composable, meaning each one was different from the next, a concept that applied to their American audience.
At the time, dangling charm bracelets were popular, but this new customizable style soon began to take over. The bracelets are made from stainless steel and feature simple designs on them making them durable and suitable with any outfit.
The bracelets resurfaced in the late 90s/early 2000s and officially were called Italian charm bracelets as the origins were linked back to the Italian brand. Quickly, Italian charm bracelets became the must-haves. People loved the concept of being able to build on them telling stories and showcasing travels. They are jewelry that carry a deeper meaning.
Now, the bracelets have become popular once again. It seems to me the bracelets have gotten more flashy as the years have gone on to keep up with the styles of the era. Half of the fun of an Italian charm bracelet is choosing what to put on it. There are multiple places where you can pick from piles of charms to build your own unique bracelet. Two of my recommendations are “cutandcropped” and “BeadKrafts” both located in NYC. These options are affordable, but also durable.
Till next Sunday,
Daisy
