Depop has got to be my favorite place to shop right now. Not only are the clothes affordable, they also have such a range of styles that you are guaranteed to find something you like. Ok, maybe that’s just dangerous… Besides the point. If you are new to Depop and need tips on either buying or selling, look no farther.
How to Buy:
- Searching
When searching, use keywords like “pink,” “midi,” or “y2k” to narrow down the options. Don’t be scared to put a lot of words in there. Once you have done that, use the filters to only search for your size and, I recommend filtering the colors even if you put a color in the search bar. If you find an item you like, view it, but also scroll down to the section titled “You might also like.” The majority of things I have purchased have been from that section.
- Reviews
Before you buy something, check the person’s reviews. But also, vice versa, leave a good review for someone if they were easy to buy from and if the item came as shown. Thankfully Depop does have something called “Depop Protection,” so if the person never ships or if the item comes damaged, Depop will help fix the issue; utilize that tool.
- READ!
People are descriptive in their captions so make sure to read. Sometimes it will say “can’t ship before this date” or will give a note about possible damages. This may sound stupid, but seriously double check the size before you purchase because sometimes you just forget.
- $$$
What I would recommend is first putting in an offer that is below the listing and wait to see what they respond with. If it says that other people have put in offers and you REALLY want it, at that point it’s worth paying full price.
How to sell:
- Tags
I would say one of the most important things to take photos of is the tags on an item. It proves that you are being truthful about size and brand. Some people like to use a measuring tape to show exactly the size of the item, I don’t think it’s necessary, but it doesn’t hurt.
- Photos
Make sure to use lighting that shows the true color of the item. If the background looks weird with the color of the item use the Depop setting to change the color of the background. If you can, take a photo with the item on, or find a photo from the clothing website to insert. Do not use all your photos from the website though because people usually don’t trust that (valid).
- Description
In the description make sure to include the basics like size, color, and brand. From there, describe any damage that has been done to the item or if it appears different in the photos. I also like to add a few hashtags to help boost the item. Things like #y2k or #stripes will help make your item more popular. Just think about what keywords people would search to find your item and make sure to include those somewhere in your description.
Happy Depoping!
Till next Sunday,
Daisy
